Kumihimo: The centuries old art of Japanese braiding. This unique style is such a wonderful addition to our Gallery’s collection.

Wendy Lewis is a Akron based quilt artist. She was raised in an artistic family and has a degree in art and in engineering. Wendy started quilting as an adult, and dove directly into art quilting. Her inspirations often come from her native Ohio landscape and immediate surroundings.

Wendy mostly creates small wall art quilts that showcase her artistic ability with fabric and thread detail. Some of these are abstract, some impressionistic, and some realistic. She also creates large pieces that provide visual impact while absorbing sound in large rooms. One of her latest interests is making utilitarian quilts from recycled wool. These are just fun.

Wendy has won many first place and best of show awards in local art shows. She also occasionally wins awards in quilt shows! Besides quilting and working full time, Wendy teaches quilting classes at A Piece in Time, gives guild presentations, sells quilts, sells pixelquilt patterns, and sells paintings.

Contact Wendy anytime at 330-687-8784 or wendyjolewis@gmail.com

Caleb McKnight works exclusively in oils with an emphasis on still life painting. His training began in Houston, Texas under the guidance of Impressionist painter Jeannine Campbell. Upon her death, he then studied with Realist painter George Gonzalez. Today, their teachings are evident in his work that combines the dramatic lighting of Gonzalez’s style with the loose brushwork of Campbell’s. McKnight seeks out to paint unusual subject matter in a contemporary style that is appealing to all. After formal training in Texas and exhibitions in Florida, he is now working in northeast Ohio.

Come into the studio to check out his awesome paintings!

I was born in Manhattan, NY in 1979 and moved to Akron, Ohio as a young boy. I met my wife Stacey (Owens) during my high school years. My wife and our kids were born and raised here in Akron.

I enjoyed art as a child, always drawing cartoon characters. In high school, I decided to take some welding classes to kick-start my career path. I always had an interest in building things and working with metal intrigued me. Welding seemed a natural fit. Throughout my training and working with metal, I have gained a lot of experience with many different types of metalwork as well as a variety of metals.

There were times that Stacey was struggling to find things for the house… furniture, lamps, wall hangings. We often had trouble finding items that we both liked. Most of the things we found were mass-produced, lacking style or creativity, or low quality. Eventually we decided I could make what we wanted much easier than we could find it somewhere else. We often discussed taking the leap and starting our own business providing imaginative, quality furnishings and accessories to people who felt the same as we did. We were confident we weren’t alone in our dislike of the bland mass produced furnishings most commonly available.

Eventually, my work situation became more and more unstable. This made it pretty easy to make the decision to start up Scofield Designs and Metalworks. We’ve been working on our own since 2008 and feel really good about the quality and design of the pieces we’ve been able to produce up to this point. We are anxious to continue to grow our clientele and expand our sales area. If there is any service that we can provide for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

While I do still appreciate the descriptive, it does not allow me the freedom I receive from doing this style. I love having the inspiration coming from the wellspring within rather than having to look outside of myself. If you’d like to view more of my work go to www.djagallery.com

As loss that is more personal began to enter into my life, I found myself comfortable in the process of creating a place of peace on the canvas. My work displays the ever-changing phases of expressionism I experience now when I become I “lost” in the creative process. Each painting is a personal extension of an ever-changing imaginary landscape in which I continually find comfort no matter how many times I revisit each scene.

We are so excited to announce that one of our featured artists, Karen Pierson, has created an installation in our Premier Gallery! You may recognize Karen’s name as she has many beautiful artworks featured in our gallery ranging from jewelry to paintings and a combination of the two. So what is an installation? An installation is an are exhibit where the relation of the parts to the whole is important to the interpretation of the piece. Karen has been working hard on this installation for a length of time and she is ready to announce that it is finished! The finished product is a three-dimensional painting you can walk into. The entire piece was built on site here at Heritage.

Karen’s show will be held the evening of Saturday, March 23rd. Come walk into a painting where the characters leap out of the canvas to tell you the story. Discover the magic for yourself and write how the story speaks to you. We will be posting clues to help you on both our website and Facebook page. Start collecting the clues and then come see the installation for the rest of the information. Write the story on the night of the opening and submit it to be judged or you can write it at your leisure and send it to gabby@heritagestudioandgallery.com. The deadline for story submissions is April 12th. A grand prize will be awarded to the person whose story correlates most closely with the concept of the artist. The winner will receive a voucher of $100 for Karen Pierson’s artwork. We will announce the contest winner on Saturday, April 20th at Heritage Studio and Gallery during our closing reception held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Come walk through the shadowy world and see what is put before you. Come find the story and tell us what you see.
