Maternity and Baby Sessions

“A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier,
clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.” -Author Unknown

In all the world, there is little more precious than a baby.  The innocence…the hope…the promise…all wrapped in one tiny bundle.  I am touched that you would consider us to document your new little one.   Please read on to learn about our sessions and see if we are a good match.

I (Amy) typically shoot the maternity and baby sessions for Heritage.  I can promise you that I will do everything in my power to capture your little one as he or she is.  Call me silly, but I feel a bond with every baby and belly that I photograph, and I truly want to create images that you will LOVE.

The best time for maternity shots are between 32-36 weeks of pregnancy.  This way you are nice and round, but there is less of a chance of missing your session due to your little one’s early arrival.  You are free to show your belly or keep your shirt closed…it is entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with.  Dads and siblings are also more than welcome!  Please call as soon as you know you want a session.  We will do our best to fit you in during this timeframe.  Sessions can take place in the studio, in your home (the nursery works well), or even outdoors.

Newborn Session Tips

Newborn sessions are best before 2 weeks of birth.  This way your little one still has that teeny new look. Of course, we will photograph any age, but the sleeping little newborn look is best acquired at this time.  Please feel free to bring any sentimental items along with you–soft blankets, small luvies, and cool hats (check www.etsy.com) work really well.  Outfits are not needed (this session is beautiful when baby’s perfect little skin is shown off against soft fabrics and great textures), but you are welcome to bring some.  It’s great if Mommy and Daddy are willing to jump in for a few shots as well.  A photography session is very taxing for a newborn, so keep in mind lots of outfit changes and movement may tire them more quickly.  Your new one may sleep the entire session.  Don’t worry–there will be plenty of sessions with open eyes and smiles.  Basic usually works best for this age.  Newborn sessions can take place in studio, in your home (I love baby shots on the bed!), and weather permitting outdoors.  Sessions last anywhere from 30-90 minutes, depending on Baby.

Three-Month-Old Session Tips

Cooing.  Laughing.  Moving.  All of a sudden your little bundle is changing right before your eyes.  It’s about time for another session.  Again, bring along any special items that Baby likes.  They add a special touch to the portraits.  Feel free to bring a few changes of clothing but please know that we may not get to all of them.  This is still a big event for a little one, and some tire very quickly from being moved around and photographed.  As with most options, these sessions can take place in studio, in your home, and, weather permitting, outdoors.  Sessions typically last anywhere from 30-60 minutes, depending on your little one.

Six-Month-Old Session Tips

The milestones are flying by.  He can do so much that we can capture…interacting with you and possibly even sitting on his own or crawling.    Gone are the days when we set your little one down and snap photos.  Be prepared for a very interactive shoot.  Your little mover will probably roll or crawl all around.  That’s great.  I’ll work to capture them doing what they do best.  There is no rush and we can work to get great shots.  Typically, two outfits work best at this age and naked shots of Baby’s back and bottom are still just adorable.  Sessions can take place in studio, in your home, and, weather permitting, outdoors.  Sessions typically last anywhere from 30-60 minutes, depending on your little one.

Nine-Month-Old Session Tips

If you blinked, you may have missed the last three months.  So many changes.  She is probably proficient at crawling and maybe even trying to walk.  The poses at this age are simply endless.  Again, the session will probably be filled with movement.  We’ll set us some great shots and then see where your little one takes us.  If she is having fun, your portraits will show it.  It is still best for most children at this age to keep clothing changes to a minimum.  Sessions can take place in studio, in your home, and, weather permitting, outdoors.  Sessions typically last anywhere from 30-60 minutes, depending on how the time goes.

One Year Birthday Session Tips

So many possibilities.  Call or e-mail, and we can discuss the many options that we have for one-year-olds.  Feel free to bring a cake for smashing or other items you’d like.  Again, your one-year-old may not be thrilled with changing clothes too frequently, so try to be selective.  Sessions can take place in studio, in your home, and, weather permitting, outdoors.  Sessions typically last anywhere from 60-90 minutes, depending on your birthday boy or girl and the options you choose.
