I ♥ Faces Contest: We Are Family

This family is special to me.  I grew up with {S} and shared his family session with you all back in November.  Every week I ♥ Faces hosts a photography contest with a theme…I always intend to enter…but with editing and shooting sometimes I just don’t get around to it.  :(

This week though, when I saw the theme I immediately thought of this shot.

Canton Photography {L Family Sneak Peek}

Last Saturday the studio was bustling with life as Dave photographed this family of 17.  I walked into laughter and the delight that only family has.  There’s just something about being with the people that know us the best.

I’m going to post these a little differently today.  I want to share their portraits as if hung on the wall.  Since they were such a big group and we were inside…we stayed with the same backdrop for the entire session.  This will ensure that they will look uniform hanging on the wall together and hopefully meet the traditional look the {L} family was looking for.  I hope this gives you all some ideas for displaying your portraits.

And now for the shameless plug…don’t forget our custom framing for your portraits.  We can help you come up with a wall design that suits you.  Any photo session from now until Christmas receives a 35% off framing discount.

Canton Area Family Photography {S Family Sneak Peek}

I’ve known {S} since we were young children and our mothers were best friends.  Our moms would pile the 5 of us (I think it was five at the time…another two came later) into cars and take us all over–the mall, various errands, out for lunch.  Most of my memories of this time are gone now, but I know I had fun.  I remember enjoying our outings with the {S} family.

I couldn’t have been happier to photograph {S}, his beautiful wife, and new baby boy when they recently visited.  I wish the world was a little smaller  and travel a little easier because it would be great to see them more…but it was wonderful catching up.  Thanks so much {S} and {A}.

Apparently I am not so good at contests.  I realized today that it is November 5th and I forgot to announce the winners.  Sorry about that!

Two lucky readers won this.  And, by the way, these letter frames are for sale at the gallery if you are looking for a unique Christmas gift.  (Shameless plug.)  Winners, please contact us with the word of your choice for your frame (3-11 letters).  For the rest of you, please stay tuned for more contests up our sleeves.

WINNERS:

Stephanie M. and Tami B.  Hooray!  Stephanie was the first to notice our new website go live and Tami won the random drawing.

Now, for the wonderful {L Family}.  Dave met them in Cuyahoga Falls at the Riverfront and captured some great shots.  I wish I could have been there because there are some awesome ones in here.

I love the real expressions in the next two.  Angela on the far left is one of our 2010 brides.  We are very excited to be there for her and Steve’s big day!

I had spent about 5 minutes with these boys when I knew I liked them.  Little {C} has been betrothed to marry Dave’s granddaughter and I have selected {L} for my Eden.  I’m hoping she can handle her…goodness knows I can’t!   :0)

{L} did NOT want his pictures taken so we made it a game.  It cracks me up but he actually left thinking we didn’t take any pictures.  His mom told me that he didn’t understand when he saw this.  I love it.

Here is the adorable G couple and their super adorable boys.

Here I am with my new little buddy.  You would not believe how well this little guy can read this book!  (And, if I were you, I wouldn’t try and skip a page.)

Little {C} was about done but I love the “realness” of it.

Canton Family Photography {F Family Sneak Peek}

First, I must apologize for our website today.  It was being corrected all day but we’ve run into more glitches than we imagined.  Our poor web designer had to go through much of it an item at a time and correct the links.  (Thanks Kim!)

But…other than that, it’s looking great, don’t you think?  We are very excited to finally be sharing it with the world.  Don’t forget to enter the contest if you haven’t already…it’s a great prize!

Now, onto the important stuff…We met the F family recently in Canton at the Garden Center for family portraits.  It was cold that morning but we moved around and warmed up fast.  These little kiddos were troopers!  The foliage was super colorful (can I say super colorful?) and painted an awesome backdrop.

I like to showcase the some of the effects we can do in every sneak peek (such as black and white, sepia, and many more) but I couldn’t bear to convert these because the colors were just so beautiful.  I finally compromised with myself by deciding to show you both of this first one:

Here are the two that started it all…

These boys were just adorable!  And they had the coolest names.

I love this next one.  Look at that green!  (I’ll miss it the next few months.)

They seem like a nice family.  You’d never know there is so much dissension brewing.  They’ve even involved the little ones in their battle.  ;)

And…just for fun…

Thanks F Family.  I hope you are as thrilled as we are.

I did it. I finally switched from PC to Mac. It arrived today in it’s sleek little white packaging and I have to say so far I am quite impressed. I’ve been fumbling through much of the navigation but it’s like a well organized kitchen…it makes sense. So far so good.

I know there are a few of you waiting for your sneak peeks and I promise you I am working on all of them. We have so many GREAT sessions to share I wish I could process everything now and show you what I mean but I have literally days of editing to do. If my plan works though, this new Mac should speed up the process.

Until I can share more with you, I have two images for you to check out:

Angela is one of our brides for next year. Dave had a session with her family before Steve and Angela’s engagement shoot. I am jealous that I wasn’t able to make it. Look how cute this shot is…And there are so many more like it.

Then…I met the cutest little guy last week. He’s my new buddy. Here’s the {G Family}. Just adorable.

I met the {J} family at a pumpkin farm in Hartville recently where I followed them around and captured them doing what they do–being a family.  Jennifer is a photographer herself and wanted to capture her family as they are now, naturally and in their element.

As the sun set lower and lower, the light became more and more fantastic.  Check it out.

I told you there was some amazing light.  And did you see those eyes?

I know I’ve said it before but I love when siblings interact.  Precious.

Praying for Hope…

October 9, 2009 by Amy

Less than six months ago, Hope’s parents got the news that no parent ever wants to hear.  Their daughter was diagnosed in utero with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.  Her condition was especially severe and the doctors didn’t expect her to be able to survive surgery.

Hope’s mother contacted me through Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.  She wanted some photographs of her baby after birth.  As usual, my heart broke for them.  A heavy weight was placed on my heart and I sent up silent prayers for comfort and peace for this family.  I agreed to be there and waited to get the call that labor was underway.

On September 14, the call came in and another volunteer, Andrew Jordan, and I went to capture this little angel.  As soon as I arrived though, I was so pleasantly surprised to see the hope that little Hope brought.  She is a fighter and has been proving doctors wrong over and over again.  She still has a long road ahead and needs lots of prayer…but she is through her first surgery and progressing a little everyday.

Hope’s mother wrote me yesterday to share her blog, http://wodzisz.blogspot.com/.  Please join me in prayer for this sweet girl and her family.

Canton Family Portraits {Sneak Peek}

When a fellow photographer Genevieve e-mailed a group of us recently I was a bit ecstatic.  She proposed a family session swap in downtown Akron and I was beyond thrilled to participate.  We don’t have a single portrait of the four of us anywhere in the house.  Ironic, huh?

The thrill dimmed a bit though when I realized that I would be photographing another area photographer and their clan.  It’s kind of like sewing for a seamstress or building a home for a carpenter.  They know.  I was assigned to the incredible James and Genevieve of Genevieve Nisly Photography and I do hope I did them justice.

Thanks Nislys for orchestrating this.  You have a beautiful family.

I love the outfits they chose…coordinating without feeling like everyone must match.  Aren’t they stylish?

dsc_0059-copy

Something about this simple moment gets me.

dsc_0047-2-copy

There is something about the relationship between siblings that I find moving…of course, this hug did end in a complete tackle.

dsc_0059-2-copy

 I love the architecture in this next one.  Look at little {R} sharing her treasure.  So sweet.

dsc_0073-2-copy

And last, but not least…my very favorite.  I am just a sap for real laughter.
