Have you ever met someone and immediately felt a bond as if you were separated at birth?  Well, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear Melissa Muir was a long lost sister.  I found her jewelry on her website and knew it would be a terrific addition to our art gallery–I had no idea though that I’d like her so much!

I’m not sure what I’m more excited about–fabulous jewelry or a great new friend!  The following work has been taken with permission from her blog.  I think you will agree it is beautiful!

Kelsi’s Closet Jewelbox, Melissa’s company, was named after her daughter who passed away after being born early to complications from severe preeclampsia.  You can read more about her story at Kelsi’s website.  May is Preeclampsia Awareness Month, and in honor of sweet baby Kelsi, please read up on this disorder.  You can learn more on the FAQ on the Preeclampsia Foundations Site.

Melissa designed the Preeclampsia Awareness Pin pictured below.  One hundred percent of proceeds from this beautiful pin go to the Preeclampsia Foundation for research and to spread awareness.  It is sold here for only $12.50, and this price includes shipping.

Please stop by the Gallery to see Melissa’s work along with many other artists.  It’s even better in person.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Melissa has had pieces published as well.  (I’m telling you, she’s that good!)  This is an example of one of the articles written about her work.

Top Ten List

The Top Ten Events in April for Heritage Studio:

10.An new Grand baby for Dave!  Morgan Paige was born last Wednesday and is doing very well.  How does this apply to Heritage, you may ask?  Easy…another cutie pie to photograph!

9. Senior Season officially kicks off with our ambassadors on April 16!  Dave and I are so excited to get our 2010 seniors in the studio and shoot them.  (Yes, :) that was intentional!)

8.  We are preparing for the PPA print competition.  The prints are technically due on May 1 but we are getting our images ready now.  Dave and I can each enter four photographs.  Wish us luck!  The PPA International Print Competition is a worldwide competition that judges 12 elements of a photograph.  Only the best of the best are approved and merited.  For more information on the PPA (of which both Dave and I are members) or the International Print Competition see their website: www.ppa.com

7.  Props. props, and more props.  In our never ending search for more and more unique props Dave and I have taken to making our own (and buying a few).  So far this month we’ve added a newly painted “crazy squares wall”, a barn wood panel,  and a swirly metallic panel.  We are working on a chain link fence prop, a poster wall, and a few more Amy has up her sleeves.  The only picture I have is from my phone of my son helping me with the “crazy square wall”.  It is about half done here…

Sorry about the horrible phone picture! But, that's one cute kid, don't you think?

6. The studio is almost complete!  We have finally just about finished decorating the studio.  It has been a long hall, but we got it.  I think you will agree that it looks fabulous!

5. Local Art EVERYWHERE you look!  We are in contact with about 15 Ohio Artists (most from Northeastern Ohio) to sell their work in Heritage Gallery.  We will be offering all kinds of work from handmade jewelry to paintings to prints to ceramic to baby items…ooooh….I am so excited.  What a fun job I have to be constantly surrounded by so many cool things and so much talent!!!  Stop in during the next couple weeks as our collection starts to grow.  Our first pieces should be appearing as soon as Friday!

4. Our dressing room has just a couple items left.  I can’t wait to stock it full of so many fun things.

You can see the dressing room on the right in this picture.  Stop by in a couple weeks and see the progress.  It’s going to look fantastic.

3. The strip lighting is going up!  I am so excited about this one.  Nothing changes the feel of a space like lighting.  Dave has been working hard all week and the lighting has begun.  Look how great this looks:

2. Free Coffee!  Watch out front for our “Free Coffee Today” sign that will be up most days this month.  Stop in, get a free cup, and check out what we have to offer.  (Does anything else I say matters…I mean it’s free coffee!) :)

1. And finally, the biggest and most exiting news of all.  Heritage is expanding next door.  Dave and I have had our eye on this space since it opened up…and now it’s officially ours.  Remember item #5?  The new local artists’ work?  Were you wondering where in the world we were going to put all these items?  Right here.  The store to the right is the current studio and the other is what will soon be the gallery half of Heritage Studio & Gallery.  …And just when I thought we were wrapping up the construction!
